Go forth...

I thought it was probably time for me to post about graduation and the like. But don't get too excited - graduation itself isn't that thrilling and I won't go into all of the gory details.
Graduating from college was a really surreal feeling, but the atmosphere itself was a lot cooler than high school graduation. (Shocker, I know.) I loved seeing the faculty in their medieval robes (I definitely think the robes should be part of someone's decision to go to a school) and even started to feel less silly about the loveliness of OUR robes when I thought of them in terms of traditional significance. Not that I understand the significance, but I like the idea of there being some. Someday I'll look it up on Wikipedia and then I'll know.
Anyway, it was fun graduating with some friends - Katherine, Kellie, Amanda, Nate, and other people I found when I got there. We joked about how boring it was going to be and took in books (which I didn't read) and candy (which I did eat) and I started wondering if I should have applied to grad school since I am now at such a loss about what to do and everyone seems to know. I'm sure they don't all know, but it feels like they do.
Looking for jobs really freaks me out (which is why I took the summer job that fell into my lap - I don't even know how much it pays). I have a few applications in, but I really need to get after it hard core now, and I really don't want to. Add to that the fact that the killer team of M & M gets broken up this week and you have some major mind-blowing craziness. I need a new apartment and I am terrified about living away from Miri and Jennie and Whitney and Marci, but I really can't handle Belmont Apts. anymore. Krissie and I are talking about looking, so at least there would be that welcome lifeline.
I feel like a real wimp when I think about how my plan right now is to stay in Provo for a little longer because I'm afraid to go out into the world and leave my friends. Katherine's going to Michigan, Kellie to D.C., and I'm still here. I hope it all works out.

The Future Freaks Me Out

Well, I'm sure you've all been waiting with great anticipation for this playlist. The "Megan is Graduating and Scared/ College was Nice and Memorable" playlist is here at last!
  • "TwentySomething" - Jamie Cullum (I've posted this song before - it's amazing. "I'm an expert on Shakespeare and that's a hell of a lot, but the world don't need scholars as much as I thought. . ."
  • "College Kids" - Relient K
  • "The Future Has Arrived" - All-American Rejects (also "Move Along," which is less annoying to me, but this one fits the bill a little better even if it is from a Disney movie.)
  • "Best Days" - Graham Colton
  • "The Future Freaks Me Out" - Motion City Soundtrack
  • "My Apartment" - Ben Kweller
  • "Sleeping In" - The Postal Service
  • "Campus" - Vampire Weekend
  • "Still" - Ben Folds (with "Still Fighting It" hitting the long list)
  • "I'll Follow the Sun" - The Beatles
  • "Winter" - Joshua Radin ("I should know who I am by now")
  • "To Be Surprised" - Sondre Lerche
  • "Without Reason" - The Fray
  • "My Song" - Brandi Carlile
  • "Breathe In Breathe Out" - Mat Kearney
  • "People Get Ready" - The Frames
  • "Keep Breathing" - Ingrid Michaelson
  • "To Go Home" - M. Ward
  • "Stumbling Through the Dark" - The Jayhawks
  • "Stable Song" - Death Cab For Cutie
I'll add to it if I think of more, but here are the beginnings or so. Enjoy.

Wow.

I want this t-shirt.

A hug.

So a little while ago we got the following comment on the virtual quote wall:

"Hello. This post is likeable, and your blog is very interesting, congratulations :-). I will add in my blogroll =). If possible gives a last there on my blog, it is about the Wireless. I hope you enjoy. A hug."

For some reason, this is the funniest thing in the world to me. I have no idea what their blog is, but I think it's basically brilliant that they sign their comments "a hug." Which is why you've been seeing Miri and me do that to each other's blogs and possibly yours. We've decided it's the wave of the future. And I'm letting you in on the cutting edge.

If you're wondering what else is cutting edge, we've also decided that we will no longer say "hello" on the phone (to each other) but instead will say, "Say words." We picked it up from a Swiffer commercial. And it's awesome.

I'll Follow the Sun

Well, I'm done.
I had my exit interview on Friday morning, and Professor Ostensen gave me a lovely evaluation. It's so crazy that the only other classes I'll be taking at BYU before I have a real job will be the Poli Sci class I don't need and the Shakespeare class I've already taken (that I won't be writing papers for, thank goodness.)
In the meantime, I have a list of things to accomplish this week, but they shouldn't be too horrible, and I fully intend to finish The Road and learn to use Windows Movie Maker so that I can make a picture slide show. Graduation will be Thursday and Friday this week, and I already know that Elder Bednar is speaking at the main one. I don't really know what the deal is with Humanities graduation, but surely it will be exciting. And by exciting I mean very long and boring. I'm taking a book.
Meanwhile, Jennie and I threw a rocking bridal shower for Miri and Lili on Friday night, and Mom and I threw a rocking birthday party for Dad on Saturday night, and I can't believe how quickly time keeps marching on and making us older and real adults and working people and married people and retired people. It makes me wonder how people can really believe that there's nothing after this life. What would be the point if this was it? It's all so short and fast and crazy. I truly do not understand how it could not be preparation for something else or only one part of something bigger.
Today's my last day in the BYU 8th ward. It's funny - I was in the 129th ward for such a long time that I hardly feel like I've been here at all. Although I will very much miss my roommates and some of my friends, I won't be terribly broken up about leaving this ward. It was good while I was here and I love my bishop, but I didn't really throw myself into the social scene and there are a lot of people whose names I continue to not know. In other words, I won't be crying in church today because it's my last week here.
I also won't be crying when I move out of this tiny apartment. I can't even tell you how sick I am of climbing over stuff and having piles of stuff all over just because it is really a giant pain to find a place for everything, and then the piling contributes to the climbing and the annoyingness. Yes, I know that many people have much less than I do and I shouldn't be so ungrateful and discontent, but I will definitely be getting a bigger room when I come back down here in the fall (assuming I get a job.)
I think that's all of the mental runoff I've got for today, so I'm off to church. Cheers.

Nothing to do today but smile . . .

The title of this post is not true. But I'm on my last leg, and let me tell you what: it is a very good thing that I don't have a ton of papers and finals this semester, because I am done done done. I have never had such a hard time getting on top of an assignment than I have with the last two sections of the TWS (which has to be done by 9am tomorrow for my exit interview, so I just want to be all done before I leave campus today, because I want to watch To Kill a Mockingbird at movie night tonight, and really, can you blame me?)
I don't know why it's so hard for me to do this - it shouldn't be at all, but I think I'm just so out of paper writing mode that even something that is not a paper but feels vaguely like one is growing and looming more than it really should. In any case, I've been wasting all kinds of time here in the library, but maybe when I finally finish this post I'll be time wasting out.
Meanwhile, this week has been nice and relaxing. Last night I hung out with Krissie and Aaron and I finally saw Across the Universe, which I really liked despite (or because of) it's weirdness. I especially liked what they did with "Strawberry Fields Forever" and "Across the Universe" (especially the crazy pairing of it with "Helter Skelter").
Also, I am posting the picture of Max (the blond guy on the right here) because although Jude was very attractive, I kind of fell in love with Max. Especially in that hat.
That's it. And I'm finally going to get cracking.

So what happens now?

So I'm finished with student teaching, and honestly, I thought I'd be posting about it, but so far the urge hasn't struck me, so I won't. Maybe later. Suffice it to say I'm done and excited about being so. I have my exit interview on Friday and a few things to do before that, but mostly I'm chill as can be and it's enjoyable.
I have a graduation playlist in the works, so look forward to that. It's pretty good so far.
I'm not excited about trying to get a job. I want one, but I don't want to look for one. It's scary. I sound like I'm five. That's one of the things on my list for the next couple of weeks - finish job applications and get some interviews. I'm not looking forward to it. Funny how in a lot of ways I am not nearly as shy as I once was, but in other ways I am almost more so. At the very least some of my insecurities have never gone away. It's not even the interviews I'm dreading - it's getting them. Weird, I know.
I still don't think it's really setting in that I'm graduating. I don't know if that's just because it isn't quite official yet, or if it's because I'm probably going to be sticking around these parts next year or what, but it's really bizarre. Kind of like the way that Miri getting married hasn't set in either. Yikes.
That's all I've got to say at the moment. I'm going to finish an application or two and then I'm going to go and book my flight to London. My life feels so so weird right now.

hahahahaha.

I would do this.

Also, I was listening to "Yellow Ledbetter" tonight, and Lili sent me the link to this. Ridiculous. And hilarious. Eddie Vedder excels at many things, but not diction.
