Rockin' the Suburbs

This was an epic weekend.

First, after a brief jaunt over to Nate Kartchner's birthday bash (in the company of Stacia, who was visiting,) Friday night was our girls' night of truly heroic proportions.
Evidence:

Yes, we went out in public like this...

I think it was originally Lili's idea - she drew us all as super heroes in church one day and we decided that it needed to happen for real. Which is sad, because she had her wisdom teeth out on Friday and couldn't come with us! But we had fun dressing up and more fun going to Classic Skating, and then after visiting Lili and Drew we called up some boys and went to Denny's. It was all quite hysterical.

Saturday was equally eventful. First, let me just say that the Hare Krishnas are awesome. They burn things in effigy and then throw chalk at each other. What could be better? So I have more pictures:

Yes. Even the llama was epic.

On top of all of this, I saw that modern version of Hamlet that stars Ethan Hawke at IC last night, and it was fantastic! I really loved the part where he did the "To be or not to be" speech in the action aisle at Blockbuster. Amazing.

On a not so cool front, I am sick, and I hope my voice comes back a little for tomorrow or it's going to be a LONG day at school. I'm not sure that inhaling 2 pounds of chalk dust helped my cause much. But I refuse to miss out on amazingness like this for a mere cold. (dies.)

Update

I can't believe how long it's been since I updated my blog! I've had plenty to write about, but life has been crazy and I haven't had time. (Or haven't made time, because when I've had time I've been watching Lost. Yes, really.)
So exciting things in the last little while: My roommates and I went to Jonathan's 80s revival party (photo evidence appears here) and it was hilarious. Whitney and I went to the Hunger Banquet on campus and were seated in the top 15% upper class section, which we felt a little awkward about, but the whole experience was amazing, especially Valerie Hudson's keynote speech and the Hari Krishnas telling us that it was okay if we didn't want to chant Shanti - only the people who wanted peace needed to. I'm going today to the teacher fair on campus in the hopes of making some contact with prospective employers, and I'm mad that I left my jump drive on campus because I didn't save my revised resume to my computer so I have to revise again. Lame. And Drew comes home this Friday!

Don't Run Away...It's Only Me

My Halloween costume in all its glory - thought you'd like to see what I came up with for "Thriller."

Krissie was a huge help with this costume. She helped me get started with the process of distressing the dress, and she did the makeup - vair vair scary, no?

I found Matt at the dance lab and we danced a lot - so fun. I almost didn't recognize him when he came bopping on over.

I think the socks are my favorite part of the costume.
The dance was a HUGE success. You would not believe the reaction we got when they all realized that we were actually going to dance to "Thriller," especially after the very traditional cha cha that came right before us. We all came zombie-ing out of the audience and then hit our half moons with spin, and they were ours, especially when we broke into the actual Thriller dance. It was a blast - definitely one of the best Halloweens for awhile.
Also, the playlist got used a lot today, and I declare it a success as well.
Happy Halloween.

Did you wear a dress crafted from meat packing paper, as we discussed?

So here I am in the glorious land of Provo, with my closet organized and my roommates in place. Belmont is a very different place than the Glenwood, partially because it is very, very small. (Note the closet size in this picture - I am pretty sure I need to scrap half of my clothes, because this is ridiculous. The drawers are nice and big, though.) I must say I'm impressed with the person who designed the place - there is storage GALORE even though we don't always have room to turn around. The desks are beautiful, and there are all kinds of cupboards and closets and drawers everywhere I look. Now that everything has a place, I feel much better about things.
It was comforting yesterday that even though I was moving to a place where I'll only know my roommates, I have a strong base of friends right from the get-go. Before I left for Provo on Saturday morning, I got a text from Geoff telling me that he would be helping me unload and demanding that I tell him when I was coming. He was already here helping Jennie when I got here. On my way down I got another text from Todd saying that he would also come over if I needed help, but by the time I remembered to answer we were almost done and he was already here to bring all-sports passes. Marci was waiting at the door with her muscle, and Krissie and Jennie were there with hugs - all in all a good sign for the year.
We had to stop unpacking to get some food and go to the Arizona game. It was weird that my official goodbye to my parents for the year was in the Glenwood parking lot (they decided to continue parking there for games - it's just too good - and my friends were walking over from there). I never really got a chance to do the official cry fest thing because it didn't hit until then, and the parking lot didn't seem like the right place to cry. It's weird that this will be the last time that my parents will move me down to school, and I don't even know where I'll be going after graduation, but it won't be home unless I know when I'll be moving somewhere else. That sounds harsh, but it's too easy to live at home and eat my mommy's food. Once I graduate I feel like I need to find my own place of some sort. Weird. Anyway, the parentals were awesome and helpful and then proceeded to spy on me during the game. :)
I love our group for the games. It's our old group from ye olde 129th ward, and even though we're all spread out now I'm glad we can come together for football. I was happy to be greeted by a chorus of "Megan!" from people I haven't seen for months. It helped that the game was a good solid win, but I used the 2nd and 3rd quarters to catch up.
I love my new roommates (and the old ones.) After the game and a visit to Todd and Jason's new apartment (and a viewing of the new Brian Regan DVD - amazing) we had some serious bonding in Jennie and Marci's room. Krissie and Janie both have amazing taste in books and movies (read: very similar to my taste in books and movies) and I think we're going to be heavy in the good times department.
Our church doesn't start until 2:00, so we had WAY too much time on our hands this morning. I think it will be better next week - I'll know how to prepare and now waste my entire morning (plus I'll be able to eat.) I spent the morning reading in bed and then going from closet to closet trying to find something fun to wear. Krissie kept saying she was bored, so I asked if she wanted to do my hair (hers is always cute) and the result is what you see above.
Our church building (yes, church building, not building on campus!) is very nice, but seems to be engineered to let you show off. We had to walk up and down a lot of stairs while members of the opposite sex watched (this is not paranoia, I promise) and we had to walk into a Sunday school class with the entire class facing us. I never want to be late for that class. (The title of this post was my brother Ty's response to my lament that the first week in a new singles' ward makes one feel very on display. Amazing.) We got a good old-fashioned chastity talk out of 1st Corinthians (always a great way to start the year) but the rest of the meetings were nice, and our ward seemed mostly less awkward than is average for a BYU ward.
My favorite part of our new place is the balcony/outdoor entrance to our apartment. After church we made dinner (I was enlisted to sautée the zucchini and squash, and although I didn't eat any, I was told it was perfection in green and gold) and took it out onto the balcony to watch a rain storm under the cover of the overhang.
Ward prayer was more awkward than I thought it should be - I miss knowing everyone - but I think it will all get better.
Here's a picture of the other half of my now organized room. It's still kind of bare - I plan to use part of Labor Day to decorate - but it's pretty and clean and all of my drawers are lined with nice green and blue shelf paper. I'm sorry that I'm I'm not feeling terribly entertaining today - I'm sure that the hilarity will ensue shortly. Like the first time I forget that I have to carry a key now and get locked out. Curses.

On a Scale from One to Nerd... AWESOME!

Here we are at Harry Potter night at the BYU Bookstore. I borrowed Lili's scarf and tie while she and Nicole stood in frames behind the Prestidigitation class and were wizard portraits. Nicole's skirt was SO BIG!
Some of the craziness at the party.

My friend Tim and his wife - Muggles dressed as wizards trying to dress as Muggles. I wish you could see the whole outfit, but it was too crowded to get a good shot.
Me with my friend Lauren. We have shared many a book obsession over the year. (Not a typo.)
Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy. We're pretty sure they practiced these sneers in the mirror, but they are denying it.

Oh, how wonderful it all was. I'm glad I went to experience the final show.

I'm so glad I'm in college because...

I'm giving a presentation in my religion class tomorrow. Dressed like this. Not sure about the crown yet.
We're presenting on President Hinckley's 6 Be's. (I don't know if that's the right place to use an apostrophe, but Bes looks really awkward. Sorry.) I don't think I need to say anything else.
Except I would like to clarify . . . that it wasn't my idea.

We Are Sure We're Not Pretender

We may be the coolest people I know.
Ever since we saw the amazing "Worst Music Video Ever" on YouTube, we've been dying to remake it, so this week it was our last chance and we decided to get it ready for our talent/untalent show. (Ours was the latter.) Two rehearsals and a trip to the DI later, we were ready, but at the last minute our Danny, Jayson Gifford, threw his back out playing volleyball. Luckily, Todd owed me a favor. (I don't know why, but I pretty much figure he always does.) He fit into Jayson's ridiculous striped pants and unbuttoned his shirt a little more than he wanted to and we were in business.
Check out our performance here.
Also, if you've never seen the real thing, you probably should. In fact, do that first or our video won't be fun. Either look up "Worst Music Video Ever" or "I Want to Love You Tender" or click here.

This just in. Doug made an amazing edit that goes back and forth between our performance and the real one. It's one Google Video, but it isn't public, so take this link. Doug, thank you for being amazing.
